King Zulu


Local media, citing royal sources, has reported that the third wife of late Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini, who died earlier this month, is expected to pick the late monarch’s successor.

Queen Mantfombi MaDlamini, has been named the interim leader of the Zulu pending the installation of a new king. She is expected to appoint the king from among her sons, state broadcaster SABC reports.

The queen was named as the interim successor in the late king’s will.

It was gathered that the senior members of the Zulu royal family are due to meet on Wednesday to discuss the succession of the king, after an initial meeting on Saturday.

Zulu traditional leader Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi has announced the burial arrangements for the Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini.

King Goodwill Zwelithini will be buried in a private ceremony on Wednesday followed by a memorial on Thursday.

“He said he would like to be buried at night and only by men. So we agreed with the royal family that his wish should be granted. And that will happen in private,” Prince Buthelezi said.

King Goodwill who suffered from diabetes died of Covid-related complications on Friday.
