The far-right leader, who has faced criticism for downplaying the pandemic and flouting social distancing measures, has been in self-isolation in the presidential palace in Brasilia since first testing positive for the virus on July 7.

A (new coronavirus) test carried out yesterday on the president came back positive,” his office statement read.
Brazil recorded its highest daily increase yet on Friday. Brazil’s 27,878 coronavirus deaths are the fifth highest of any country.
The health minister disclosed that Brazil recorded 1,124 new coronavirus-related deaths in 24 hours, raising its overall death toll to 27,878. Brazil currently has 465,166 confirmed cases of the coronavirus.
Friday is said to be the fourth day in a row that Brazil recorded more than 1,000 deaths in a day.
Brazil’s top football clubs are giving out their stadiums to health authorities to turn them into field hospitals and clinics to fight the coronavirus pandemic.
Since football has been suspended until further notice, more than half the clubs in Brazil’s Serie A have handed over their stadiums as authorities in densely populated Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro seek to expand hospital capacity to deal with the crisis.
Current South American champions Flamengo are giving control of their famous Maracana stadium in Rio de Janeiro to health authorities, said club president Rodolfo Landim.
