A husband has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for keeping his wife locked up in a dark cellar where she was raped by him and his brothers on a daily basis for $7 (about N2,500).
Mariusz Sz. was convicted of abusing his wife between 2006 and 2010. She spent two years locked up in the cellar of their home in northern Poland.
The victim — whose name was not revealed — was regularly beaten, starved and repeatedly raped by her husband, his two brothers and another friend.
Local media named him the Polish Fritzl.
Judge Marta Urbanska said: “[The victim] was imprisoned in a cold, dark cellar, in which she was deprived of the possibility of taking care of her personal hygiene and the possibility of dealing with her physiological needs under dignified conditions.
“She was starved, forced to eat meals with her bound hands in a kneeling position. Meals were prepared in a manner that denied her dignity.”
The husband’s two brothers, Andrzej and Marian Sz., and their friend Tadeusz B. have also been charged with raping the victim and face a minimum of three years and a maximum of 15 years in prison if found guilty, according to Grazyna Wawryniuk, spokesman of the Gdansk prosecutor’s office.
All three have pleaded not guilty.
According to Polish media, the twisted hubby “rented” out his wife for about $7, putting a bag over her head and then letting the men rape her.
It is not known how many men raped the woman.
She eventually escaped her cellar prison and called her mother. The victim was worried about her two daughters.
One of the girls, aged four, had been sexually abused.
