On the occasion of the 67th Anniversary of the July 23rd Revolution and the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday, the Egyptian Interior Ministry said the President has decreed on Tuesday, July 2019 that 1,250 inmates are pardoned and 313 others should be released on parole.

According to the Ministry, the move is necessary to implement a modern concept of penal policy, to provide inmates with all means of welfare and apply the procedures set to releasing rehabilitated convict.

The ministry added that it is a tradition for Egyptian Presidents to pardon prisoners who have spent more than half of their term as well as the sick and elderly during National and Significant Religious Occasions such as this.

The July 23rd Revolution is a movement led by Egyptian Military Officers in 1952 which collapsed the monarchy and secured a republic in Egypt.
