Oladimeji Ramon, the Deputy Director of, Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) in an interview said that public officials cant continue luxurious lifestyles while the masses suffer.

He started that SERAP has been having a running legal battle with governments across the 36 states of the federation to stop payment of a jumbo pension or severance packages to ex-governors and their deputy governors. Why is this battle important to SERAP? Because of the obvious consequences that are manifesting on the public workers and pensioners of the states, who have been refused salaries and pensions running into several months on the excuse of non-availability of state resources to pay them.

Therefore, it is an obvious need to recover such public funds collected by former governors and to use the funds to provide basic necessities of life to millions of poor and vulnerable Nigerians.

He explained further that there is absolutely no reason for former governors, including those who are now senators and ministers, to enjoy governors’ emoluments while drawing normal salaries and allowances in their new political offices.
