The Prime Minister of Mozambique, Carlos Agostinho do Rosario has revealed that more than 500,000 people have been displaced by the militant Islamist insurgency in the gas-rich northern province of Cabo Delgado.

The PM told the parliament on Wednesday that the displaced people had sought refuge in the neighboring provinces of Niassa, Nampula, Zambézia, Sofala, and Inhambane.

“The government had activated the National Operational Emergency Centre (CENOE) to offer humanitarian assistance to the displaced”, he said.
