President George Weah has announced the end of the state of emergency he declared in April so as to contain the coronavirus pandemic.

He ordered soldiers who were deployed to enforce the restrictions to immediately return to their barracks.

The new development occurred days after the president told worshippers at his private church that he could not continue to keep the country in lockdown.

However, the President warned the public not to construe the cessation of the state of emergency as a licence to engage in behaviours that may lead to a further spread of the virus.
