Fourteen Ukrainian Sailors Return Home From Libyan Jail

Ukraine presidential website reports that fourteen Ukrainian sailors who had been detained for more than three years in Libyan custody arrived at Kyiv’s Boryspil airport on 19 June.

The report then quoted President Volodymyr Zelensky stating that it was their mission to return citizens home. Adding that he was happy for the sailors and their families. 

The crew, who were identified under the Odessa-registered oil tanker Ruta were detained in Libya in 2017 on charges of smuggling petrochemicals.

The report also thanked the co-ordinated operations of the Ukrainian government agencies involved. The result which was achieved in the negotiations with Libya and our citizens were returned home.
