The Mozambique government has disclosed the killing of 78 Islamist insurgents in a fight with security forces over the past few days.
Reports have it that the army launched an offensive after the jihadists seized Macomia in the north of the country. This is said to be the third town the militants invaded in recent months.
Defence Minister Jaime Neto revealed that two ringleaders were killed, and identified both as Tanzanians.
However, there has been no word so far on civilian or military deaths.
