The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control announced on Monday via its Twitter handle that Edo State, among other cases, has recorded its first confirmed coronavirus case.
The NCDC stated that an additional five cases of the virus have been confirmed on Monday, which brings the total number of cases in Nigeria to 35.
“Five new cases of #COVID19 have been confirmed in Nigeria: two in Federal Capital Territory (Abuja), two in Lagos State and one in Edo State. Two cases are returning travelers from the United Kingdom. As of 09:45 am on 23rd of March, there are 35 confirmed cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria. Two have been discharged,” the tweet stated.
However, Governor Obaseki has urged residents not to panic. He highlighted that precautionary measures have been put in place to curb the spread of the deadly virus.
He also announced the prohibition of more than 50 persons gathering in Edo state until further notice, he also declared that public officers below Grade Level 12, except those providing essential services such as fire and healthcare, should work from home as well.
