50 Houses In Ondo Destroyed By 30 Minutes Rain

Residents in Imeruku Onigari community, Shagari area, in Akure South local government area have been rendered homeless as a rainstorm that lasted less than 30 minutes have destroyed over 50 houses.

The roofs of some buildings were totally blown off and destroyed other buildings that were not originally affected by the storm. Several electric poles were also destroyed which caused the community to be in total blackout.

“What happened yesterday was beyond human knowledge and imagination. It started around 6 pm. It was very worst. It destroyed over 80 houses. Most of our properties have been destroyed. This is beyond our capacity, we thank God no life was lost but the damage is too much,” a community leader, Mr Ayeni Abayomi said. 

Although no life was lost in the incident, residents in the area said they lost many properties, affected residents were seen removing blown off roofs from the streets. Several carpenters were hired to remove roofs that fell on other buildings. Some residents were seen with their properties outside their houses.
