Sowore Appears In Court Today

Sowore and his associate, Olawale Bakare appeared at the Federal High Court in Abuja today for the proceedings at the resumed hearing in their trial. 

Former Chairman of the Council of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chidi Odinkalu, Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, and a former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani were also at the Federal High Court, to witness proceedings at the resumed hearing in the trial of the convener, RevolutionNow, a protest against alleged bad governance in the country.

The proceedings commenced around 10 am, Soyinka arrived at the court before the proceedings began, Sani also came in, went ahead to greet Sowore then settled on a chair behind Soyinka.

The case had to be suspended on Tuesday due to the trial judge’s absence, following which hearing was rescheduled for Wednesday.

Aminu Akilu, the prosecution lawyer, on Wednesday, informed the court that an amended charge has been filed and was just served on the defence.

Defence lawyer, Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN) took time to look at the new charge, following which the prosecution sought an adjournment. Before adjourning, Justice Ijeoma Ojujkwu awarded N200,000 cost against the prosecution for causing unnecessary delay in the proceedings.

However, Justice Ojukwu adjourned the case until Thursday (February 13) for further hearing.
