Kenyan-born Hodgen Mainda has been appointed to the Tennessee state cabinet

On September 5, Tennessee governor, Bill Lee, announced the appointment of a Kenyan, Hodgen Mainda as the new Commissioner for the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance.

However, Governor Lee announced the appointment through a press conference.

Meanwhile, he is the first Kenyan to hold such a position.

Governor Lee said Mainda has an outstanding career as a community leader in Chattanooga, citing his work on the boards of a number of organizations.

Equally, the announcement was reported on the governors and state department of commerce and insurance twitter accounts.

It is equally important to note that, Mainda will officially assume duty on October 1st 2019.

He has worked for several organizations such as the Downtown Chattanooga rotary club and the Chattanooga area of commerce.

In addition, Mainda worked for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga chancellor’s roundtable and the college of Business Advisory Board.

Moreover, he moved to the US in 1997 to study at Middle Tennessee State University.

He currently resides in Chattanooga with his wife and children.
