Soldiers kill 3 police officers, injure others in Nigeria

The Nigerian Police announced on Wednesday, August 7 the killing of three officers and wounding of several others after Nigeria soldiers opened fire on a police team in Taraba.

Police said the officers were of the Intelligence Response Team and that the incident occurred along Ibi-Jalingo Road in Taraba.

An Assistant Police Superintendent Felix Adolije led some officers of the state to arrest a suspected kidnap kingpin whom the police identified as Alhaji Hamisu when the officers came under sudden attack with serious shooting by soldiers of the Nigerian Army as Hamisu was been taken to the Command Headquarters in Jalingu.

An Inspector, two Sergeants and a Civilian were killed while many were left seriously injured.

The soldiers were also accused of allegedly releasing the suspect Hamisu who is now on the run, police said.

Hamisu has been recognized as a notorious kidnap kingpin who the police have been hunting for his alleged complicity in several high profile kidnap cases including the recent abduction of an oil dealer in Taraba State.

The injured victims are presently been treated while bodies of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue.

An urgent investigation has been ordered by the Inspector General Muhammad Adama to ascertain the truth of the bizarre and unfortunate events.
