Amnesty International have said that One hundred and thirty detainees in a notorious Egyptian prison in Cairo, known as the Scorpion have been on hunger strike for a period of six weeks to protest against what they call “Cruel and Inhumane Detention Condition”
The International rights group have called on the attention of the prison authorities to find out if the allegations of torture and other abuses are true. A number of political figures have been jailed over the course of a sweeping crackdown on dissent in recent years
The Amnesty’s Middle East and North Africa Deputy Director Magdalena Mughrabi said: ” The combination of squalid and inhumane detention conditions and the denial of family visits and access to their lawyers have created an unbearable situation for detainees”.
All effort made to get comments from the Interior Ministry Spokesman were futile.
