Wednesday, August 14th -The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed that three people died, thirteen rescued, and two are still missing in a boat accident.
The accident happened following a head-on collision between two speedboats around 6:30 pm on Tuesday at Irewe in Ojo.
It was gathered that one of the boats holding ten passengers was coming from Ojo jetty, while the other with eight passengers was coming from Irewe community.
LASEMA said in a statement on Wednesday that those rescued have started receiving treatment while search and rescue are still trying to locate the missing others.
An official of the local council resident in Irewe, Mr. Nurudeen Oyefolu said that the boat accident was caused by over speeding and reckless driving on the part of the operators.
The Director-General LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu said an investigation was ongoing and if any rules were broken by the drivers, thus leading to the accident, they will be punished.
