Iganga bus accident kills 2 and injures 42

Monday, August 12th at least two people died and forty-two others are seriously injured following an accident involving a bus with registration number UAQ 906T which belongs to YY Coaches and a trailer.

The accident occurred at Buseyi Village along the Iganga-Jinja Highway of Uganda.

The bus with sixty passengers on board coming from Kampala and heading to Mbale was trying to pass a vehicle, but a trailer was coming from the opposite direction.

The bus while trying to avoid a head-on collision with the trailer swerved off the road and overturned.

The Busoga East Police Spokesperson confirmed the incident saying they are yet to establish the exact cause of the accident but the passengers had told them that the driver was driving recklessly.

The deceased have been identified as Wanda Asiyaka, a resident of Mbale but the woman who died along with him is yet to be identified as at the time this report was prepared. Bodies were taken to Iganga Hospital Mortuary for postmortem.

The driver identified as Mr. Taban was arrested and he is been detained at Iganga Police Station.

A passenger, Yusuf Bilali, one of those who survived the accident said that “ The driver was speeding yet it was raining and in the process of trying to overtake, he lost control”.
