At least seventeen Islamic militants were killed by security forces during raids on hideouts in the capital of Cairo and in the Fayoum province, about 80 kilometers or 50 miles, southwest of the capital, Said Egypt Interior Ministry.

The ministry’s statement on Thursday, August, 8 says that the militants have been linked to members of a group accused of being behind an attack earlier this week killing at least twenty people when a car packed with explosives detonated outside Egypt’s main cancer hospital in Cairo.

According to our source, a group known as Hasm, which has links to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood carried out the attack.

Police officers killed at least eight militants when they stormed their hideout in the town of Asta in Fayoum and killed seven in a firefight in Cairo’s Shorouk suburb.
