3 story building gutted by fire in Anambra

A part of a twin three-storey building was destroyed by fire at Emenike/Ezeugo road junction, Okpoko in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Our sources said the fire that was said to have been caused by a gas cooker and started around 8 pm on Wednesday, August 14 in one of the flats on the last floor.

No lives were lost, but properties worth millions belonging to some of the occupants of the building were.

Okpoko Fire Service men arrived the scene almost immediately to contain the fire from extending to other floors in the building, but their water ran out halfway.

Resident and sympathizers also assisted to contain the fire by pouring sand and water to the fire before it finally died down.

The Acting Okpoko Divisional Police Officer Mr George Okore confirmed the incident saying “the incident was caused by gas explosion but we are still investigating to ascertain the exact cause of the fire”. He said no life was lost.
