Johannesburg collision – One dead, 15 injured

A collision between a taxi and a light motor vehicle resulted in the death of one man and injuries to fifteen others on Monday, July 15 according to ER Paramedics.

According to the Emergency Official Spokesperson Russel Meiring, the incident occurred at the intersection of Woodmead and Woodlands Drive in Woodmead, Johannesburg.

Mering said the ER24 Personel along with other emergency services arrived at the scene at the early hours of Monday, July 15 to find the taxi laying on its side against the traffic light.

The majority of the injured passengers had already climbed out of the vehicle and were sitting on the roadside.

Paramedics found two men trapped inside the taxi, one with light injuries and the other with numerous injuries. Specialized equipment was used to free him from the taxi and he was immediately placed on advanced life support.

Those who sustained minor to moderate injuries were checked by the Medics and taken to a nearby hospital for further care, while the critically injured man was airlifted by a private medical helicopter to a nearby hospital.

The taxi driver was nowhere to be found.

Authorities are investigating the incident further to ascertain what actually happened.
