The African Union has condemned President Trump’s “shithole” remark, but on Monday, Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, the first subsaharan president to visit the white house dismissed the comment as a possible rumor, saying it’s best to keep quiet.
“Mr. President, did you address Trump’s reported comments from earlier this year, when he reportedly used vulgar language to describe African nations?” asked, Jordan Fabian of the Hill during a joint news conference.
In response, Buhari said “I’m very careful with what the press says about others and myself. I’m not sure about the validity or whether that allegation against the president was true or not. So the best thing for me is to keep quiet,” he added.
Below is the welcome speech video, where Trump asked Buhari about security in Nigeria, boko haram attacks, the kidnapped school girls, and the killings by Herdsmen.
