An entrepreneur in Kano, Malam Isma’ila Abdullahi Shabege, yesterday climbed a radio transmission mast belonging to Kano Broadcasting Corporation with a view to committing suicide unless the governor of Zamfara state, Abdulhaziz Yari steps down.
Shabege who was a political praise singer to the governor during the 2011 general elections, stated in a note he left behind that the governor abandoned him after he had promised to support him boost his business of tricycle fabrication.
He said “I was the leader Zamfara state singers forum in 2011 when Yari was bidding for governorship of the state and when we won the election I had free access to the governor at anytime I want to see him, the opportunity I used to present to him my God given talent of fabrication of tricycles.
“The governor was very impressed with my talent, seeing how it could be harnessed to address the issue of unemployment among youth and thus promised to support the innovation.
“He further promised to take me to President Muhammadu Buhari for presidential support, this spurred me to improve and modified the machine in various shapes and sizes, but to my greatest amazement, when I took some of the tricycles to the governor to confirm to him what I told him he denied me, that made me frustrated given the money and everything I spent in the project” he said.
He said presently because he does not have resources to continue the project, he has lost the patent right to the invention stressing that the only was to express his grievances was to climb the mast until the governor apologises.
He further urged the federal government as part of his conditions to invest in his project to create jobs for 10, 000 youths in the country.
Musa Usman, an eye witness who spoke to our reporter at the scene said Shabege arrived the premises of Kano state broadcasting corporation’s booster station at Tukuntawa, Kumbotso local government area around 6am behaving abnormally before he climbed to the pinnacle of the mast.
It took combined efforts of Kano state Fire Service personnel in collaboration with the police and SSS to convinced the entrepreneur to come down at 11:45am.
The PRO Kano state fire service, CFO Sa’idu Muhammad Ibrahim said the command received a distress call from one Lawal Isah Bagwai at 9:30am and immediately rushed to the scene, “when our men arrived the scene at 9:45, we met a middle-aged man on the mast, then, our men climbed and persuade him to come down the mast.
He said the entrepreneur was handed over to the police immediately he was rescued from the mast.
Spokesman Kano state police command, SP Magaji Musa Majia said that the command got wind of the information through the Manager of Kano State Broadcasting Corporation.
He said “with the combined efforts of the police, fire brigade and the SSS the man was rescued before he was whisked away by the SSS.”
