Shaimaa Ahmed, better known by her stage name Shyma, appears in the video in her underwear before a classroom of young men.
The blackboard behind her has ‘Class #69’ written on it, and she proceeds to suggestively eat an apple and a banana and pour milk over the fruit.
The video to her song I Have Issues created a stir on social media in conservative Egypt and was discussed on TV talk shows.
Security officials say prosecutors have ordered the 25-year-old to be detained for a week over the racy video clip.
The officials said Shyma was arrested last week following a flurry of complaints.
MP Jalal Awara said: “The content of the video clip is harmful to the Egyptian society. There must be a firm stance against promoters of this substandard art.”
The singer apologised for the video.
She said: “I apologise to all the people who saw the clip and were upset by it and took it in an inappropriate way.
“I didn’t imagine all this would happen and that I would be subjected to such a strong attack from everyone, as a young singer… who has dreamt from a young age of being a singer.”
She was initially remanded for four days, and prosecutors on Monday ordered her detained for seven days.
Earlier this month, a Lebanese pop star was reprimanded by Egyptian authorities after wearing a pair of shorts on stage.
