The All Progressives Congress (APC) youth renaissance group has urged security agencies in Nigeria to arrest Peter Okoye, one of the identical twins and R&B Nigerian singers P-square, for “disrespecting our government and bringing it to a disrepute.”

This was in reaction to posts on social media by the P-Square brothers and their elder brother Jude Okoye after the Nigerian Government announced plans to stop movie and music video production abroad.
Peter on Sunday announced that he was set to dump Nigeria and become a citizen of another country, adding that he is sometimes ashamed to be called a Nigerian over government’s failure “since 1960.”
He wrote: “And our Government been failing us since 1960.
“Dear FG, for your information! All the Shame way una dey bring  for dis our country na we dey entertainers dey cover una Nash! Ndi ala.”
Responding to the post, the APC group in a statement signed by its national secretary, Mr Collins Edwin, said P-Square would not have been successful if not for policies by the Nigerian government.
Below is the statement:
“We read the scurrilous remarks credited to Mr Peter Okoye of the Psquare group against the Federal Government’s job-saving policy in the entertainment industry with great anger and vexation.
“Least of all persons to make scathing remark against the government is the Psquare group which the local content policy of the Federal Government dusted-up from the valley of obscurity.
“Where was Peter Okoye or Psquare brand in 1999 when foreign music dominated our airwaves? If not for the government policy which mandated all broadcast stations in Nigeria to pay attention to Nigerian music by playing 95 percent of Nigerian songs every day, would Peter Okoye or Psquare be known to anybody in Nigeria today? Or would they have competed with better American music which dominated our airwaves then?
“After the government have used its policy to brush them up from nothing to something; instead of giving opportunity to other people, they are taking Nigerian jobs to foreign countries through the shooting of music videos abroad.
“Now that government have intervened to raise great and better entertainers again, Peter Okoye has the gut to insult the entire Federal Government by calling our great leaders ‘Ndi Ala’ which means mad and stupid people. How dare you say that Psquare?

“We, therefore, urge the security agencies in the country to arrest Mr Peter Okoye for disrespecting our government and bringing it to a disrepute. If you cannot produce in Nigeria and hire Nigerians, then leave the industry. We must export Nigerian culture to the outside world through our music and videos.”

  1. These APC Politicians must be real Ndi ala #NigerianAPCareRealNdiala. If in anyway Peter Okoye is arrested for this, It will be a violation of his human right #FreedomofSpeech. wait a minute… do we still have a democratic elected government in Nigeria?? It is heart breaking to see such a statement coming from the ruling political party that has most of our leaders serving in all various arms of the government. They have done enough harm to that country and for them to directly attack an individual for voicing up his concerns, its a SHAME!! they are simply shameless bunch of craps in power! "vagabonds in power" A.K.A (VIP) as the great Fela use to call them. I think Peter was even fair in addressing them. As much as we love our country, most of us will agree that our Leaders are our major problem and instead of them to focus on what matters the most for the country, they go for comments made by common citizens while leaving Fulani heads men and Boko Haram killing and destroying properties worth billions. It's shocking that till date no Fulani man is arrested for all the atrocities they have committed. Its time for this rubbish to stop. If freedom of speech has become a prerogative for the ruling class then they should amend the constitution and include that in.

  2. P.square is an artist, we have more serious issue's as a country. Why don't we concentrate on poor masses life. Let's stop giving important to things that are not important. Nothing is moving, graduates are everywhere no job's, no payments of salaries, jungle justice, suffering, Our dear government please let's be serious minded and tend to important problem.

  3. Is the movie and music industry our problem in Nigeria… When our leaders are going abroad for treatment , shopping abroad for families and sending their kids abroad for schooling destroying our health broad and education system… They're talking about shooting music and movies abroad… Shame on the ruling party…

  4. It's a shame that we Nigerians don't like the truth. So, we don't have any problems with foreign medical tourism that has destroyed our health sector? We don't care about our education system that has been neglected and rejected for foreign schools? We still don't see anything wrong with our Govt buying foreign SUVs……when IVM has plenty of it at Nnewi? But we care so much about where we shoot musical videos that has minimal economic importance compared to the issues above…….. I think something is wrong with our reasoning!!!

  5. Nigeria government.!!!!!please try to understand our problems and forget about music and video shorting in another country,i believe shorting music in orther country that is because we the don't have most developed place to do it.. Am proud of Nigeria not because my country is rich!!!! But talking about the government all I see is errors every were…please Dear FG do us well na pls and please… My real boss Pater pQ nor reason am.we all know say Nigeria government they mess up… But e go over them one day…..

  6. What a shameful Government! They have time for frivolities and not REAL matters hunting we Nigerians. May God save us all from Ndi Ala # Nigerian Government.
