A group of Nigerians on Thursday protested the arrest and alleged plan to arraign and detain the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore.
The police in Lagos yesterday arrested Mr. Sowore following an attack on him by a London-based Nigerian journalist, Lekan Fatodu, in Ikeja G.R.A, Lagos.
Mr. Sowore was attacked by Fatodu, publisher of UK-based CheckOut magazine, over a story Sahara Reporters published about him last year.
But Mr. Fatodu posted a tweet saying he “just got Sowore Omoyele of Saharareporters arrested for criminal defamation and blackmail and threat to my life and career.”
Mr. Sowore today alleged that the Lagos Commissioner Of Police is preparing phony charges against him.
H e wrote on his Facebook page:
It has come to my notice that the Lagos Commissioner Of Police is preparing phony charges against me. They plan to arraign in court and get me detained in prison.
Again, as I mentioned in my last post, this attack on me was well planned by the police, Lekan Fatodu was just used as a smokescreen.”
