Mugabe is 'ready to die for what is correct', has no intention of stepping down - nephew

Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe and his wife Grace are “ready to die for what is correct” and have no intention of stepping down in order to legitimize this week’s military coup, his nephew, Patrick Zhuwao, said on Saturday.

Speaking to Reuters from a secret location in South Africa, Zhuwao said Mugabe had hardly slept since the military seized power on Wednesday but his health was otherwise “good”.

The ruling ZANU-PF party will hold a special central committee meeting on Sunday morning to dismiss 93-year-old Mugabe as its leader, two ZANU-PF sources said on Saturday.

The meeting, which is scheduled to start at 1030 am (0830 GMT) will also reinstate ousted vice-president Emmerson Mnangagwa and remove Mugabe's wife, Grace, from the leadership of the ZANU-PF Women's League.
