Many feared killed as Shiite, Police clash in Kano

About 12 people, including a police officer, are feared dead on Monday following a clash between the Kano State Police and members of the Shiite Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) in Kano city.
Eyewitness said that the clash started around Tamburawa, on the outskirts of Kano city, when the police tried to stop a Shiite protest.

The police have since deployed heavily armed mobile police officers to the area while the major Kano- Zaria road is completely blocked.

Kano police spokesman Magaji Majita said a police sergeant was killed, without giving further details.
